Motoki Ohya, Director and COO of Mirai Inc. (Head Office: Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President and CEO: Akira Senoo; hereinafter referred to as “Mirai”), will serve as a guest lecturer in the course “Amakusa Studies” (Spring Semester: Regional Revitalization and Leadership / Fall Semester: Local Politics) offered by Professor Tsuyoshi Mawatari (specializing in political science) at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Ibaraki University.

Background of the Course

In November 2024, upon learning about the successful efforts in regional revitalization and corporate attraction in Amakusa City through a mutual acquaintance, Professor Mawatari invited Ohya to lecture in his course “Local Politics.” Feedback from students included: “It was fascinating to hear about attracting businesses through local human resources,” “The collaboration between the public and private sectors was impressive,” and “As someone from a rural area, it changed how I see things.”

Later, in December 2024, Professor Mawatari visited Amakusa City himself to see the initiatives firsthand. Through conversations with many local stakeholders, he became convinced that the region embodies the “Three Ts” (Technology, Talent, and Tolerance) proposed by American sociologist Richard Florida in his book *The Rise of the Creative Class*. He felt inspired to make these regional efforts part of academic study and share them with his students at Ibaraki University.

Ohya was entrusted with selecting the lecturers, given his long-standing involvement in community revitalization in Amakusa. He carefully chose presenters from among local business leaders with whom he has worked closely.

Vision Behind “Amakusa Studies”

Our company has been working with Amakusa City to promote regional revitalization, aiming to build a “sustainable local community model.” We believe that nurturing civic pride—pride in one’s community—is the foundation for building resilient regions.

In this sense, the establishment of “Amakusa Studies,” which brings over 20 guest lecturers from a national university to a region without a university of its own, is a highly meaningful initiative.

Through direct interaction with local businesspeople, we hope that students taking this course will discover diverse values beyond monetary worth, such as human relationships and contributing to the community. We believe these experiences will enrich their personal lives.
